Navigations
13 May 2014
Hackney Picturehouse, London
Part of Inside|Out, the RCA Curating Contemporary Art MA first year interim project of video art screenings.
Navigations explores how the urban environment frames and shapes our lived experience. We are encouraged to reconsider the context in which we live through psychogeographical explorations, issues surrounding surveillance and reimagining the constructed landscape. Narratives of the city are woven by singular viewpoints, whether a drone, a character, or the camera itself; in so doing they invite wider consideration of how the urban terrain contributes to the shape and form of these narratives. This oscillation between personal experience and a more physical sense of place, creates both an immersive experience and a more detached, critical engagement.
